There’s an informative post by The Washington Post (June 7) about Obama’s administration releasing new regulations for the New Clean Water Act (CWA). The new law is designed to protect specific bodies of water in the US.
“Industry and farm groups are campaigning vigorously against it,” because this means many “…businesses and landowners will now need to acquire permits to pollute or alter these streams and wetlands — and some of the most harmful activities may be prevented entirely.”
While some states have had strong requirements in the past about dumping into wetlands, other states were allowed to set their own standards. Obama’s new law will be a shock for some, and a huge bonus for others, but let’s remember the good of the country and the health of the people.
