According to LA times, there is finally some good news about California’s drought and water usage. According to the officials who track water usage, in the month of May California’s residents were able to cut back 29% on water usage.
Hooray California! Well done!
“‘My first response is almost disbelief,” said Mark Gold of UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. “These results are beyond encouraging; they’re heartening. They make you realize that as a whole, people in urban areas are making the sacrifices necessary to get through this unprecedented drought.'”
The reduction report for the month of April was 13.6%, so we’re moving in the right direction. People are changing their lifestyles, which is what is needed here. Residents are continuing to be encouraged to take shorter showers and let their lawn turn to brown this summer.
Let’s keep it up, and see if we can do even better next month!
