According to The Washington Post The Obama administration has anounced plans to strengthen the protection of rivers and streams in America from coal mine waste, pollution, and spoils. The proposed regulations would require that water quality surrounding coal mines be regulated and damaged water be cared for.
“Industry officials have strongly opposed the reforms, saying the new requirements, if finalized, would result in more layoffs and closed mines at a time when coal companies are under financial stress.”
These new regulations will also help the people, families, and future children who live nearby these coal mines.
