According to The Sacramento Bee, the California State water regulators have issued their second charge against an agricultural water district for diverting water illegally. Fines are over a million dollars, and farmers have the right to challenge the complaints at administrative hearings.
Farmers all over California are struggling with diminished supplies from this fourth drought year. “Already the board has officially notified thousands of irrigation districts they don’t have surface water available to them.” Roughly a dozen districts are sueing the board for its methods of policing water rights during such hard times.
