These Zeba products are pretty amazing.  You can save water by greatly reducing the frequency and the amount of watering you do and still know that your plants will get the water they need when they need it.  These products are a result of more than a decade of worldwide agricultural trials and are the culmination of research between Absorbent Technologies and the US Department of Agriculture.  They are now available to householders.

Zeba Quench is a unique, all natural, corn starch-based product that provides a consistent source of moisture and nutrients for healthy plant growth.  The granules absorb up to 400 times their original weight in water and water-soluble nutrients present in the soil, to store until the plants need it.  Zeba Quench increases the quality and yield of plants while saving water.  Interestingly,  Zeba Quench was developed to hold 400 times its weight in water to deliver the optimal balance of water and nutrients to benefit plants.  The granules could be produced to hold as much as 5000 times its weight.  But the most important factor is not total absorbency, but the ability to release the greatest amount of water as the plant needs it.  Zeba Quench is unmatched in its ability to do this.

'Singles' are individually packaged portions of Zeba Quench, with organic fertilizer added.

Water When the Plants Need It

Water is absorbed by Zba Quench in the root zone where it is needed by the plant, rather than having the water percolate down through the soil.  The healthy microenvironment Quench creates will save water and nutrients near the plant roots for use when the plant needs it.

Water is released to the plants in response to the suction of the plant's roots!
Quench releases the water slowly in the precise amount that the plant wants.

This delivery of a consistent supply of water leads to fast establishment of new plants or transplants.  Optimum growth is supported with longer watering intervals.  Another way of saying this is that Zeba Quench 'manages' water for the plant.  Instead of water being dispersed into the soil or evaporating, it's held for the plant by the granules until the plant wants it.

You save water because you need to water your plants less frequently and with less volume.

This also means you can get away for a bit longer without having to worry about your plants being watered.  Our friend Jarred calls it a 'Zee bacation'.

                                                      For All Kinds of Plants

Zeba products can save water and improve the health of growing garden perennials, annuals, shrubs and bushes, deck container plants, houseplants, hanging baskets, vegetable gardens and establishing new sod for beautiful lawns, or filling in on troubled lawn areas. Zeba Quench provides the consistent source of moisture and nutrients necessary for plant growth.

Just a small amount of Zeba helps houseplants thrive with less frequent watering. Zeba Quench holds potting mix moisture longer in rapidly drying planter boxes and containers thereby cutting watering frequency for indoor and outdoor pots and containers. Zeba's soil additive products promote fast turf and garden seed germination and sod establishment.

A more consistent supply of water leads to less stress on plants in turn delivering a better survival rate and a great plant root development. This is very helpful for transplants and will result a higher percentage of seed germination in starts.

                                                       For All Types of Soil

Soil particles in sandy soil are relatively large and have poor water-saving capabilities.  Zeba Quench placed in sandy soils will hold water, preventing it from moving past plant roots where it is most needed.  Clay soils, which are much more compacted, benefit from the increased aeration that results from the expansion and contraction of Zeba Quench.  This increases oxygen levels and allows more water flow through the soil - which is what you want in clay.

Stops Rot

Because Zeba Quench granules repeatedly expand to many times their original size, and then contract again, based on the water available, soil particles are forced apart.  This increased aeration is the greatest factor in preventing root rot.  This combination of ideal water availability and good aeration promotes a better soil environment and therefore faster plant growth - while reducing or eliminating root rot.

                                     These Are Not ‘Water Crystals’

Householders have been trying ‘water crystals’ for years. Unfortunately, these petroleum-based, earlier-generation synthetics are environmentally suspect and deliver mixed results.  Zeba is the natural alternative for environmentally responsible growing.  Quench delivers superior moisture retention that release to your plants when they need it..

Zeba Quench is totally different from other water-preservation products, including any of the synthetic polyacrylate and polyacrylamide formulations (PAMs) currently available.  PAMS are synthetic polymers made with petroleum-based formulations and typically use the active material found in disposable diapers.  These synthetic polymers hold water tightly.  This means that they compete with your plants for the water!

Many synthetic polymers contain significant amounts of sodium, petroleum derivatives and other fillers, which can be detrimental to your soil and your plants..

Zeba Quench can hold twice as much water as PAMs., and more importantly, releases water far more easily to root systems.  Overall, you'll save water and your plants will do better..

                                 No Chemicals or Chemical Reactions

Zeba soil amendment products are naturally derived and no chemicals are added.  And their use will not change the chemical makeup of the water and any water-soluble nutrients absorbed.  (We recommend that you do not water with chlorine - please see our garden water filters.)

Zeba Quench is biodegradable, nontoxic, odorless, pH neutral and safe for all plants.  It is made of glucose molecules which are linked together to be a water-insoluble, net-like matrix that releases water when the plant 'asks' for it.   So you not only save water by using less, you save water resources by not polluting them with you runoff.

                                    Patented Scientific Breakthroughs

The core technology for Zeba Quench was developed and implemented by William Doane, Ph.D. of the US Department of Agriculture.  During 32 years at the USDA, Dr. Doane and his staff oversaw the key scientific breakthroughs that led to the development of superabsorbent polymers.  Dr. Doane holds 45 patents related to superabsorbent research.  He has retired from USDA, and is an active advisor to Absorbent Technologies.

Between 1994 and 2003 a team undertook an extensive research program that led to the development of this new starch-based superabsorbent technology.  Their innovations in the lab, supported by eight  years of impressive results in field trials, led to the founding of Absorbent Technologies in 2003.  Absorbent enjoys exclusive cooperative and reserach development agreements with the USDA.

                                     Increases Fertilizing Effectiveness

As a result of its ability to take in water, with whatever nutrients the water contains, Quench is able to hold fertilizer in the water it is storing for plants.  The plant then takes in the nutrients when its roots take in water.  This means that your fertilizer will go further since it is available to the plant rather than being washed into the soil.
